Folias de baco ‘Uivo Branco Vinhas Velhas', 2018
Style/ Colour White
Grape Varieties A mix of native varieties (more than 15), including Gouveio, Viosinho and Rabigato.
The producer Tiago Sampaio, established his label in 2007, having completed his PhD in Oregon. Tiago is an advocate for sustainable viticulture and the production of natural wines in the Douro. He cultivates vineyards between 500-700m – a mix of inherited old field blend vineyards and new plantings, where the boundary pusher has planted Alvarinho and Tinta Francisca.
Winemaking This biodynamic wine is made from 80 year old vineyards in the Cima-Corgo sub-region. Tiago applies a minimal intervention approach in the cellar followed by 12 month ageing in mostly used barrels and cement vats on the fine lees.
Tasting notes This wine shows old vine concentration with orange peel, amaro liqueur, saffron, fennel seed and dried apricots on the nose. The medium-bodied palate is juicy with pleasantly dry tannins and good acidity.
Food Pairing Arroz de tamboril (monkfish rice) or grilled fish would be sublime.
Serving recommendations Serve at 10ºC. Remove from the fridge 30 minutes before serving.
