Folias de baco ‘Uivo Alvarinho', 2019
Style/ Colour White
Grape Varieties 100% Alvarinho
The producer Tiago Sampaio, established his label in 2007, having completed his PhD in Oregon. Tiago is an advocate for sustainable viticulture and the production of natural wines in the Douro. He cultivates vineyards between 500-700m – a mix of inherited old field blend vineyards and new plantings, where the boundary pusher has planted Alvarinho and Tinta Francisca.
Winemaking Naturally grown Alvarinho grapes are hand harvested at 600 metres above sea level in the Cima-Corgo sub region. Minimal intervention in the cellar with 6 month ageing on fine lees.
Tasting notes Pale yellow colour with typical Alvarinho exuberance. Notes of lime, lemon, green apple and a touch of grass. Great complexity (due to the prolonged fermentation) and mouthfeel with a stony mineral finish.
Food Pairing Drinks great on its own or pairs nicely with white fish and shellfish. Try with Bacalhau, salty foods like this have the effect of making wines taste sweeter than they are, so drier wines with good acidity work best.
Serving recommendations Drink cold at a temperature of 7-9ºC.
