Luis Gomes 'Giz' Vinhas Velhas, 2016
Style/ Colour Red
Grape Varieties Baga
Winemaking Giz means chalk and refers to Bairrada’s poor, stony limestone terroir where Luis Gomes grows his centenary vineyards. Aged in French oak barrels for 20 months.
Tasting notes Clear ruby colour. This red is very elegant with delicate floral notes and sweet aromas of red cherry and sloe berries. Mineral, structured and complex with a pronounced acidity which mellows once opened for a few hours balanced by sweet candied cherry.
Food pairing It is traditional in Bairrada to pair baga with rich suckling pig, but this wine, with its vibrant acidity, will cut through other rich food, from pork belly to sticky ribs, to rich pastas.
Serving recommendations Allow to breath in a cool place for at least an hour. Serve just below room temperature 16-18ºC.
