Herdade do Rocim 'Fresh from Amphora' Branco (1L), 2019
Style/ Colour White
Grape Varieties Perrum, Rabo de Ovelha and Manteúdo
The producer The wines of Herdade do Rocim have become something of a fixture at Bar Douro since winemaking couple Catarina Vieira and Pedro Ribeiro presented a selection of wines from their huge, diverse range at an ‘in conversation’ wine dinner. The range has become increasingly refined, less reliant on extraction and oak, allowing the Vidigueira sub-region’s freshness to animate the wines. From mature bottles like Olho de Mocho Reserva to making wine in traditional talha (large amphorae) and innovative ‘clay barrels’ has revealed another side to this modern estate.
Wine Making Organic grapes, naturally vinified in clay pots ‘Talha’ and with no temperature control. Fermentation took place using indigenous yeasts and with no addition or correction of must. Two months of skin contact inside the amphora. Come under Nieports Nat Cool brand.
Tasting notes Green golden colour. On the nose it's quite mineral with floral and earthy notes. Remarkable acidity, refreshing and tense.
Food pairing Charcuterie, roast squash, wild mushrooms
Serving recommendations Serve cold 7-9°C.
